Nam June Paik is considered one of the most significant and innovative artists of the 20th century and the “father of video art.” From the time of his appointment as a professor at the local art academy, Paik’s artistic and pedagogical activities were centered in Düsseldorf. Even after his retirement in 1995, the artist—born in Korea, educated in Japan and Germany, and recently deceased in Florida—remained closely connected to his friends, students, and numerous admirers in Düsseldorf and throughout Germany.
