LIFE FLAG (RAINBOW) symbolizes the seamless variety, exchange and the common roots of all living things on earth. It is defined by the color codes specified by the artist.
By using these colors for her ANIMA APP, Sabine Kacunko widened the chromatic spectrum of the existing custom global and regional maps and time series of carbon fluxes. Color gradations are refined by extension to 233 (a number on the Fibonacci-scale), following an algorithmic key that refines the usual displaying of PM10 (Fine dust / alveolar dust), O3 (Ozon) and NO2 (Nitrogen dioxide.
LIFE FLAG (RAINBOW) is a sequel of the LIFE FLAG (NEWS FROM EVERYWHERE) by Sabine Kacunko (2010), which featured a new subunit of 16s rRNA-sequences that appear equally in plants, animals and in the DNA of human beings. The artist discovered the named subunit in an Alexandar von Humboldt-bacterium-specimen that was originally found in Calabria by Luigi Sementini, before he handed a little tube of this ‘cosmic dust’ (red ´Sahara dust´) to the humanist Alexander von Humboldt in Paris in 1823, and before it was passed to Florens Chladni to be finally stored in the Museum of Natural Sciences in Berlin as a part of the Ehrenberg Collection.
